how does your garden grow

I started this little gardening project last week after seeing seed packets and flower starter kits in the dollar section of Target (I work there so I get 10% off) and couldn't resist. 30 bucks later (which is a lot in dollar land) I came home with enough seeds and soil to start a modest vegetable garden, something that I have been wanting to do for a few years now. My mom thinks that this will be just another phase, but I have every intention of eating a home-grown salad, with home-grown salsa on it by the end of the summer.

Low and behold (and even on earth day of all the days) I'm seeing the start of some green today.

Here we have cucumbers, which I planted 7 of.

Marigolds, because even though I can't remember which bugs they repel, I know that they get rid of some of the bad ones.

I tried to plant some poppies last year but they never turned out. I left the soil in the plastic outside over the winter and the other day I found these, I have no idea want they are but I like them so they get to stay.
(And if anyone has any idea as to what they are please tell me.)

Trying to keep the soil moist while waiting for the seeds to grow was very frustrating for me. Luckily we keep our recycling can next to the table that my new garden is on so I went diving and found a few Taco Bell containers from last week. my sister and I have decided to call them "Taco Bell Terrariums."

In here is a variety of tomatoes, peppers (hot and sweet), herbs such as; basil, chives, cilantro, parsley, and a whole bunch of others. The chives are showing signs of life but it's a sign that you need a magnifying glass to see.

Also saved from the curb, is my new watering can. Mm mm...juicy.

I'll post more as it starts to grow.
I sort of fizzled out on the make something every day challenge. I was really good at making stuff but I never got around to posting, so maybe sometime after I get the hang of snapping pictures of stuff and posting, I will re-challenge myself to make cool stuff everyday for a month.

Make Something Cool Every Day for April: Day 1

the inspiration for my first project came by default as i was trying to finish a hat that I've been carrying around in my purse for a week working on little by little whenever I can get a row or two in. I got to the last row today and i needed to count out how many stitches I had in each row so that I could bind off giving the top a fold so that it looks like cat ears. As usual I reached for the closest small round object that I had at least ten of (usually it's safety pins) and started counting out the stitches in groups of ten and realized that this is the perfect oppertunity to make a set of stitch markers.

The Starting Line

A good band and a great way to start things off.

I've been crafting for years and have recently found so many blogs about crafts that it's hard to sit by and not join in the fun.

With all of the Knitting, Sewing, Beading, Painting and everything else that I do, it's only seems appropriate that i share my creations with the world. For the most part I'm self taught with the occassional push from family and friends, but as I've found out no matter how good of a teacher you have the only way that you can ever learn something is by actually doing it.

So in addition to showing you all kinds of projects that I'm working on, I will be writing some how-to's for the projects that i really want you all to try.
